MTP Models
A technical look at the models behind Race MTP: Legacy MTP (mtp-v1) and MTP-Geometric (mtp-geometric-v1).
Legacy MTP (mtp-v1)
Race MTP compares an athlete's finish time against the historically valid world-record curve for their sex and performance date, after converting the course into an equivalent flat effort distance.
- Race geometry (distance and elevation gain) is converted to an equivalent effort distance in kilometres.
- The current Legacy MTP effort is the average of Naismith and Method A (the same formulas used when scoring Race Results).
- That effort distance is looked up on the male or female world-record curve that was valid on the performance date — selected with the same historical rules as scoring.
- Race MTP = interpolated WR duration ÷ actual duration × 1000.
The chart below shows the WR curves themselves. Competition-specific Naismith / Legacy / Method A markers live on each event's Competition MTP reference chart.
